High-Strength Film & Fibre Grade

2499 is specified when a film has to carry load. The same high DP that delivers strength also narrows the spinning and coating windows, so process control matters as much as the number on the bag.

Strength and modulus. High DP with full hydrolysis gives the highest tensile and modulus in the range — a candidate for vinylon and high-strength film.
Narrow dope window. Spinning dope from 2499 tolerates less variation in concentration and temperature. Change grades gradually instead of stepping straight across.
Batch consistency. Ash and volatiles are controlled tightly and lot-to-lot drift is small, which is what customers running continuous lines actually pay for.

Processing Guidelines

Make-down. Dissolve in 85–95 °C water under low-speed agitation and add flake slowly to avoid lumping. Typical solution strength is 6–10% for sizing and 3–6% for binders. Hold the tank at 60–70 °C to prevent gelation, and filter through 80 mesh before the size box.
Concentration. Work at the strength the application needs — adding water later to a gelled batch does not restore the film.
Filtration. Screen the solution before it reaches the machine; gel particles that pass are defects that cannot be removed downstream.
